Tattoo Removal Cremes

January 28th, 2010

People get tattoos done and then in time come to dislike or regret the look of their skin. The reasons for tattoo removal are not that important, the thing is that they exist. While in the past, tattoos met all the conditions of permanence, things have definitely changed thanks to the new technologies available. Laser and pulsed light therapies now make the most advanced and efficient solutions for the removal of tattoos, but there are many who would first try a tattoo removal creme before investing thousands of dollars in laser treatments.

The injection of the ink in the deep tissue layers makes tattoo removal very difficult if not impossible. Plenty of websites now advertise for products promoted as wonder solutions for tattoo removal. Yet, there is no such thing as a miracle tattoo removal creme. Even with laser therapy it is still hard to break the ink, which means that with simple exfoliation you’ll get zero results. The main ingredient for almost any tattoo removal creme is an acid, sometimes combined with natural extracts.

Plus, the scientific support for the topical products aiming at tattoo removal is pretty limited. Even if you get a tattoo removal creme that has received FDA approval, this only guarantees safety, not efficiency. A tattoo removal creme will normally work for small mono-color tattoos. Most results consist in the gradual color fading over a certain period of time. This means that the tattoo removal creme is exfoliating the skin, taking some pigment away with the dead cells.

There are some health concerns related to the use of any tattoo removal creme, regardless of whether it is FDA approved or not. The impact of an acid on the skin is immediate and harsh. You can experience increased dermal sensitivity, rashes, irritations, redness, itching or tingling. While some of these symptoms, like itching, for instance, are perfectly normal, rashes aren’t. Talk to a dermatologist and get some professional advice on the matter.

In the absence of the FDA approval, the tattoo removal cremes could be even more dangerous. Read the product instructions carefully in order to make sure that it is certified. Keep in mind the fact that the absence of the FDA approval should tell you that there are health hazards involved that you may not anticipate.
